Woo Hoo

So the nice girl Marysia from PCL sent me my itinerary yesterday. As I stated before my flight leaves from Hamilton on Sunday at 7:15 am. It should be a very long day. I do not land on the jobsite until 8:45 pm. Then I have to go through a bunch of red tape before I can get to bed. But I have to be up and ready to catch a bus by 5:50 am. This should be quite a challenge. I can imagine my first couple of days with all the training and orientation should be a bit of a nightmare. So for that reason, I doubt that anyone will hear from me before Tuesday or Wednesday. My head is spinning just thinking about it.

On the bright side I will be flying with a friend.

At last

Finally the company has sorted me out. My flight will leave from Hamilton this Sunday at 7:15 am. I will have a 9 hour layover in Calgary. This is fine with me because I have never been to Calgary before. From Calgary I take a charter flight right into the jobsite. It should be an interesting day. The one thing that will be nice is that there will be a guy on the flight that I have worked with before, so I should have someone to talk to.

Rrrrrrrr

Well the company (PCL Industrial) finally called me yesterday. Everything is good. They are in the process of getting me on a flight. Apparently they have a lot of people going there so seating is tight right now.

Just about there

Alright, I finally got my clearance to work as far as the Alcohol an Drug testing goes. I could have told them that they won't find anything in my system. But I guess they don't take peoples word for it. Anyway now I am just waiting for a call to find out flight information. This is taking a little longer than expected. I hope the end is worth the means.

Going Slow

Apparently the woman who took my urine sample filled some of the paperwork out incorrectly. This has caused a slight delay in my results. They say they will have them tomorrow. The problem is that it is making it increasingly difficult to get a flight this week. I find this agitating because I could have stayed at my job for a few more days. Oh well, I guess I will make up for it later.

Almost

I am finding that it is quite amazing how much time and effort it takes to get ready to go work remotely. Of course I should realize this as it was not that long ago that I was taking off to work in the Cayman Islands. It seems to me though that the circumstances are different and with it being a different environment it makes a lot of the preparations different.

I have to call the jobsite office tomorrow to find out my test results and get my flight information. I hope that it is not too long as I am kind of broke and I need a paycheque. With any luck I will be on a flight Tuesday. Not exactly what I had expected, but I will take what comes my way.

Horizon Project

Apparently the project that I am going to is absolutely huge. The security badges for the site are numbered up over 63,000 right now. They built an airport on site to fly the men right in. Anyway here is a link to photos of the site in the 3rd quarter of 2007. http://www.cnrl.com/horizon/about_horizon/photo_gallery/2007/Q3-2007.html

Work Referral

Ok. So for those of you that don't know I am going to work in the oil sands of Fort McMurray. I received my work referral on Wednesday. I went and gave a urine sample to check for drugs. This should not be a problem as I am not a substance abuser. Once I have my negative result back I will be getting a flight booked. This is another good work opportunity for me. I will be able to make some good money there. As far as I know at this point I will be on a 35 day rotation. This means that I will be there for 35 days, then they will fly me home for 7 days.

I will be taking all the usual gear with me, laptop, cameras etc. So I will post lots of picture and you will be able to get a hold of me via email, jwebbis@gmail.com skype, j..webb or phone, not sure what my phone number will be yet.

Hopefully I can keep everyone updated via this blog.
